It is the Global Shipping Program

The seller ships to that address and then that address will ship the item to you.

Many sellers are opted into GSP without realizing it until they've made a sale & even then might be clueless.

If the seller ships to the KY center using a method that has tracking, you should get a number & can "track" on the appropriate site, USPS/UPS/FEDEX.

The center will process the package & assign a "Global Tracking Number". You'll get the new number & a link.

The seller never even had your actual address, only the "shipto" in KY. Pitney-Bowes, the GSP manager, has the actual delivery address & will readdress the package at the center. They'll send it on to one of their subcontractors for international transit & delivery.

Can you tell us

Who delivered the package?

Was there a customs declaration form on the package?

This would be helpful for informing others about the program.

By now the tracking number you were given is probably working.

Re: What is 1850 Airport Exchange Blvd ?

This is my experience, so I'm not sure if this applies across the board....there is complete tracking on GSP shipments.  If you click the tracking number in My Ebay to bring up the tracking dialog, once the item has been processed through Erlanger, a destination carrier tracking number (which is a link), appears in the dialog.   Clicking this will take you to the destination carriers system, and key events also show up in the main part of the dialog.

I have seen three different carriers/brokers in the handful of GSP sales I have done, all of their systems behave differently.  Note that it seems possible that:

  • some of the system have no data until the package is actually in their possesion, others show a trivial information received entry
  • the trackmyparcels.eu site does not accept the tracking number as a URL parameter, and it must be hand typed into their web site, it's a pretty bad design

Thanks for that.

More information and less speculation is good.

There is no reason whatsoever for a GSP shipment to have a customs form attached to an individual package.

Of course not, but the scientist collects negative evidence to support a hypothesis.

Re: What is 1850 Airport Exchange Blvd ?

in reply to afantiques

I am a seller and had three items shipped to that address (1850 Airport Exchange Blvd) this week. I did not realize what it was until today and have not Opted Out of the GSP as instructed above  One buyer paid eBay $21.53 for shipping for an item that I would have charged $11.  The item cost $5.50.  My invoice showed only my US shipping charge of $3.50.  Until the buyer contacted me that the address I showed in my note to him was not his address, I did not realize what was going on.  A bill that should have been $16.50 was $27, but I only saw the $9.00, which is what I received (with US shipping).

So, OPT OUT of this rip off.  And, in the pricess of eBay setting me up for GSP, some of my ads reverted to old versions with old prices and information.  Also, some item that I do not have listed for International shipping, have been sold to go to GSP. What a mess.

From another Forum:

Ebay Global Shipping Program is a terrible scam. Do NOT use this service if you are a seller! Your buyer will be charged MORE THAN DOUBLE what it would cost for USPS First Class International. The 'fine print' on this horrible scam of a shipping option is that your buyer will pay "Customs, brokerage, and OTHER fees." The first buyer of ours that fell prey to this scam was in Australia and they were charged $28 for a $12 mailing. We refunded the purchase price of the item to help the buyer recover from this overcharging on ebay's part. Go to your Site Preferences, then Shipping Preferences, then edit & 'opt out' of the Global Shipping Program. Help put a stop to this ridiculous overcharging of international customers.

I'm not at all sure from the above quote what makes the GSP a "scam".

Shipping a lightweight item internationally as a parcel (Priority) is invariably more expensive than shipping it as an oversize letter (First Class International).

Shipping a lightweight item internationally as part of a container-load of freight (GSP) is more expensive than shipping it as an oversize letter.

It's just what happens when someone tries shipping an item by a shipping method better suited for heavier items.  How is that a scam?
