Suddenly, I cannot go beyond the first page of a saved search that offers more than 1 page of results. (I will mention that I "tweak" the original results by using the "refine your search" button. I then enter a slew of sellers I wish to eliminate from the search--by scrolling down to "sellers," clicking the "only show items from" and then the "exclude" part and enter by list of sellers I wish to eliminate). I then click "Go" and I get a new set of results which has eliminated to sellers I don't want. I have been doing routine this for months. All well and good up until this point. I have my pared down list of results but when I get to the bottom of the page and click to go to the next, I get a page that says the page I want is not available. So the rest of my results are unavailable to me. Not only that, I cannot use the saved searches at all from that point on! I cannot go back to the original set and get beyond the first page. WHAT HAS EBAY DONE TO MY SEARCH PAGES??????
From what I gather - somebody else wrote about this issue as well, a while back and I helped her work on it - it has something to do with the number of sellers being excluded. When that person tightened up the search criteria and reduced the number of sellers (I think she may have broke it into a couple of searches, eliminating the sellers who commonly listed in each subcategory), it seemed to fix the problem.
Glenda: Thanks for responding. I'm afraid this is a different animal than the earlier posting. Something seems to have changed recently because if I try the refinements with just a few sellers I still cannot go past the first page. I can use all--and there are scores and scores of them--and it works fine. It will pare down the listings. The problem is going beyond the first page. And then, after that, I can't even do a search at all for a while, all I get i the page cannot be found screen. Unfortunately, this ability to pare down is essential to my continuing to use eBay as it is my main search. There are SO many sellers that lists hundred and even thousands of things that the playing field has been tilted in the direction of mega-listers. It's like whack-a-mole: eliminate one and 2 take their place in short time. Very frustrating and there is no talking to anyone at eBay as none of the phone people understand the nuances of these things and then, invariably, when they say they'll get back to you their either don't or come back with something that doesn't apply because they don't really understand the question and then relay, in phone game fashion, an inappropriate response.
What you're describing sounds identical to the email conversations I was having with the person (whose user id I don't remember). If the person did the search they couldn't go to the second page - and after that, much of the time, they couldn't do ANY searches for a little while.
Whey don't you try posting your search and I'll take a look and see if there's some suggestions I can make.
Thanks. Here's the search URL:
and here are the excluded sellers (bring up the search, click refinements, scroll to "sellers" and exclude and put these in:
I see two issues:
(a) most of your search criteria have the wildcard in them: dali, chag*, picas*, kin*ade, "e.m. wash*" etc. eBay's search no longer supports wildcards.
As far as I know the wildcard has never worked in the middle of a word (I'm presuming you were excluding kincade and kinkade); it worked only at the end.
eBay is still ignoring punctuation, so the periods for e.m. is unnecessary,
If you have words in parentheses, it's not necessary to also put them in quotation marks, because the parentheses says to find things in that order, the same as quotation marks do.
(b) I'm reasonably sure that the number of sellers you're specifying is giving search a heart attack. It may give indications that it's unlimited, but I don't believe it.
I think the structure of one or two of the seller ids is incorrect: meibohm_fine_art s as an example
Let me suggest that you write to firstname.lastname@example.org - use your regular email program, not My Messages (My Messages doesn't work for eBay employees). Explain the problem and refer her to this thread, and she will pass it along to the Search team to look into, unless she has an explanation right off.
Thank you again for taking the time to look at this.
1. I know eBay doesn't support wildcards anymore but the search still operates. (I have tried to replicate this search w/o the * and I cannot do it). That is not the issue as I have been using this since wildcards were eliminated. The origin of the problem is more recent (a week or so).
2. I know the sheer number might give "search" a heart attack (what doesn't kill it will make it stronger???). It needs a bump. I am too far in to change it. They still keep accepting them--for the first page. Luckily, I have pared down this massive search so that for the past 5 days it has all fit within the first page of 200 listings (if it doesn't, I can go back to the unrefined state and finish off the days postings in the bloated form). I am do deep into the woods to turn back so I keep eliminating sellers. The day that they won't accept my eliminations I'm cooked.
3. The seller ids are in the correct form I nearly certain as I copy them from the page rather than trying to type them in (and that would certainly lead to errors).
Thank you again. If only eBay was attentive as you are!!
P.S. I also wrote to email@example.com.
Thanks for taking the time to report your issue.
If I'm understanding your issue correctly, if you load the above URL into your browser and then try to use the links to get to the next page (i.e. page 2, 3, 4 etc.) you see no results. Is that correct?
If so, could you please provide your browser and browser version so I can relay that information to the search team for their investigation? I am using WinXp/IE8 and am able to paginate successfully.
It's more complicated than that. Click on her link. Then look at More Refinements > Sellers - and it's empty. Then click on Advanced Search, scroll down to Excluded Sellers. This is what I see:
(note that not all the sellers are listed, and they have double commas between the user ids)
Clicking on her link brings up 13,346 active listings.
If I erase the list of sellers on the Advanced Search page and paste in her full list of sellers, I don't get any results at all. And the number of checked boxes on the results page goes from 8 lines to 5.
Sorry! I'm using Google Chrome, up to date version.
Thanks for the elaboration.
I'll ask the search team to take a look, but I believe your assumption that jla is hitting a query length limit is correct.
My problem in Ebay is i cannot go back one page or back at all, nothing happens even if i use thew alt left arrow key
