A few years ago, ebay made it plain that shipping insurance was the responsibility of the SELLER, that it was the seller's responsibility to make sure the item was delivered safely, and sellers were not allowed to ask for or include insurance charges when payment is due. More and more I'm finding listings with seller's making it plain that shipping insurance is the buyer's responsibility.

Since insurance is for the benefit of the seller, the seller is the one to purchase insurance. That way the seller will get reimbursed for the value of the item if it is lost or damaged.
Buyer's are "insured" by Ebay's Buyer Protection.

Those sellers are wrong. It is the seller's choice/responsibility.

Those listings are in violation, and could be reported. Sellers are not allowed to ask for insurance, or to state they charge extra for it.
Insurance protects only the seller, if an item is damaged in the mail, or lost, buyers have ebay buyer protection.

Well, this is eBay that we are talking about and thereof, eBay let the seller to take care of it if seller wants an extra cushion for any lost or broken in the transit. Because, buyers are looking for bargain or freebie if they can get a way with it.
