Old Artcraft Sewing Machine

Hi, I acquired an old Artcraft Sewing Machine, not the Jr.. Does anyone know of a web site that would have information on when it was made and the history of the Company. The front plate says Made in Japan, but the motor is USA. Can't find any dates. I searched the web but only found info on the Junior machine. Thanks

There were very few sewing machine companies Japan. I would bet that this is a post war machine. Companies in the US would buy machines and than put their own nameplate on them. They were all basically the same machine. You could have a Brother, Mitsubishi or any other brand of machine.

I think Artcraft was a Ct company and it was not unusual for the imported to put on their own motors.

I would google Japanese sewing machines and see if you have one that looks like it. Also is there a JA in front of the serial number.

After WWII in order to jump start a non military industrial system, the US gov't gave the plans for Singer 15 to Mistubishi, Brother and other Japanese factories that use to make munitions.

These machines all look like old Singer machines and the importer would than add there own name plate. Monarch and Precision are also machines that look like your Art Craft.

Singer machines from this period will have a JA in the serial number, knock offs would have JN and the N probably is the city it was made.

I meant to say J plus another letter and the other letter being the city or the plant.
