Paying FVF on shipping twice with "Free Ship"

Let's just say I list an item and want $50 for it. It costs $12 to ship. If I offer it for $62 shipping included, I pay $6.20 FVF on the item and $1.20 FVF on shipping. Total $7.40. If I list it for $50 and it costs $12.00 to ship, I pay $5.00 FVF on the item and $1.20 FVF on shipping. Total $6.20. I am paying TWICE for the FVF on when offering free shipping. Can anyone explain this. Maybe I missing something?

Yes, you are Smiley Happy If you list item for $62 with free shipping, you only pay final value fee on $62, which would be $6.20.

Yes you are.

The final value fee of an item selling for $62.00 with free shipping is $6.20

The Final value fee of a $50.00 item with $12.00 shipping is $6.20

That's what I understood. I recently sold a lot of 4 bowls for 49.99 with free shipping. The shipping cost 12.00. I was billed 5.00 FVF for the item an 1.20 FVF for shipping. But I also sold a briefcase for 120.00 dollars and was just charged 12.00 FVF for the item, no FVF for shipping.

So sometimes there is an extra charge and sometimes not.

OP, are you talking about this auction?

You did not offer free shipping, therefore you were properly charged a FVF on the $12.00 shipping.

eBay charges the FVF on shipping as a separate line charge from your item FVF charge.

I suspect eBay does it that way so it's easy for them to change or reverse the shipping FVF if you end up giving the buyer discounted or free shipping on an invoice, and the buyer pays from the invoice.

Me and two others I know are about to stop using eBay. It's just not worth it. FVF, Shipping FVF, PayPal Fee = NO PROFIT.

eBay makes money, not us! eBay should END the shipping fvf and only charge 7% FVF. They would still profit bog time and sellers will be able to pay their bills and EAT!!!

As long as you list (and sell) high enough there's plenty to pay the bills & eat.  Doesn't it all come down to "Buy low, sell high"?

Simple math - list for enough to cover the fees + your time & other expenses + make a profit.

Sounds to me like you aren't selling the right stuff, or what you're selling is priced too low.
