Shriners Pin/Brooch?

Shriners Pin/Brooch?

Hello All!

I posted this in the Jewelry Category but I know there are lots of Shriners memorabilia collectors and thought Id check here too. I purchased this pin from an Estate Sale at a Shriners house. I figured it was a Shriners piece but I have been unable to find anything else with this design. It seems to have Arabic writing and a date of 1790. The back is signed Coro. Does anyone recognize this?

Thanks in advanced for any help!

Post this on the Jewelry board.  I don't know if Coro made jewelry for fraternal organizations, but there was a time when major costume jewelry manufacturers made these faux-military/organizational pieces because they were fashionable. I have one for sale now.  The Jewelry board has some Coro experts who may be able to give you more info.  Put Coro in your title when you post.  ALso show pictures of the back with a closeup of the signature.

Duh. I just saw that you posted it there. Not enough coffee this morning.  Sorry.

Looks like it may be some sort of badge / order from a Arabic Country.....

Closest I find is Turkey. The center "script" is called a Toughra and is the symbol of the Ruler

A picture of the back would help.  I can't believe Coro made pins for Turkey so maybe it doesn't say Coro.

Hi!

Thanks for all the info. Here is the picture of the back:

I assumed it was OES / Mason / Shriners because of all the other memorabilia from the estate. I hadn't thought of it being a Military Style Pin.

Thanks again!

I'm surprised no one on the Jewelry board can help.  I have a lot of Coro jewelry and I know a few of the regulars there are experts and have Coro books.  Did you post the marking on your query there? If not, go back to your original post and add that.  I am 99% certain that Coro would have made this as jewelry and it has nothing to do with Turkey per se.

This site has the patent pictures.  If you scroll through, you may find it.

I did post a picture of the markings on the Jewelry Board and was told it is an older piece (pre-1955) based on the Coro mark but that's the only response I have received. It is an usual looking piece.

I will research the link you provided and see if I can find any more information. Thanks for all you help!
