Remove traces of oil or ink from the painting

Hi all,

I have this painting which has been seriously damaged. This is an oil on wood painting with traces of something like oil or ink on it. It's completelty dried even if it doesn't look like this. Is there any chance to remove these drops by myself ( the cost of a specialist would probably exceed the value of the painting )? Do you know a product or a method to remove it?

Thanks for your help.

Marcin

If it's oil, did you try a clean dry cloth and a bit of Dawn dishwashing liquid.  (original formula in blue.)  ?  LESTOIL would also take off an oil stain but it  could soften the original paint.

Ink..I have never been able to remove ink from any surface without damaging it somehow.

If  you didn't pay too much money for this , sell it LOCALLY with an accurate description and do NOT  take paypal.   Write that you don't know if the stains will come off..  Make sure that it's local pickup and you're paid in cash.  Maybe somebody else is willing to pay to clean it but first make sure that it isn't a rare painting by a famous painter.

Thanks for your help. I will try to find the product you wrote ( i'm in Europe , the name can be different. ) I paid it 40 USD last year and for several months I'm trying to identify the artist , his name is Leon Jourdain but I don't think it was a famous guy..
