Because eBay realizes people may not be on their computer 24/7, they allow 4 days before seller can file a Unpaid Item Case in the Resolution Center.

If that happens, eBay allows the buyer 4 more days to pay.

After 4 days the seller can file an Unpaid item Case. Then you will have an additional 4 days to pay before they can close it without payment. You would receive a strike at that point- 2 strikes and most sellers have their preferences set to block you from bidding.

It is always a good idea to plan to pay immediately after an auction- if I can't pay within 24 hours I contact the seller to let them know when I will be paying. In my opinion, if I can't pay within 2-3 days at the latest I won't bid, I will wait for a different auction.
