I picked up this cast iron buffalo bank and trying to determine if this has some age to it or a new reproduction made to look old. He is 4 1/4" x 3" in height. No screw on the side, but there is a piece sticking out. Also has two holes underneath.
In the last photo, I think I see some letters just to the left of the spike thing, maybe in a circle or maybe I'm just seeing things.
I have found a few in this exact shape, painted red and one was white, No colour on this one, doesn't look like it ever had colour.
Any ideas or info greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info! I think this is the first cast iron bank I have come across so I wasn't sure what to look for age wise, but hopefully will know if I find another one. While researching this I found a site that said if there is red rust it will be a reproduction, and this has red rust.
Thanks Holly, I couldn't figure out what the spike thing was

The protrusion is not the sprue
The sprue would have been on the inside or edge
Red rust only means relatively recent rust, it does not rule out age
Your piece is likely at least 30 years old, probably 50
