What in the world is this for? Brooch with a stick pin? Help Appreciated!

Hello everyone!

I came across this interesting butterfly brooch. If you pull on the ball with the chain attached, a long stick pin is revealed. Any ideas what this would be for? Does it have a special name? I can't find anything similar, but I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for. 103_6641.JPG103_6643.JPG

Any help is always GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks, Garyn

I don't know the exact name of the clasp, it almost looks like a Trombone clasp, which was used in Victorian age 1860-1900.

If the back is sautered, then it is Victorian.

If it's glued, then it is more modern.

There is a pin back on it besides the stick pin that comes out.

Here is a pic of the back....

I am wondering if the side pin with the chain was designed to pierce a flower stem.

I think the pin with chain is just extra decoration' both pins' pinned to the material . I remember seeing something close in an old picture (1930s) big scarf around the neck with the pin in front of the knot, also saw one on a jacket lapel. Brooch with stick pin?
