As part of eBay’s commitment to help sellers succeed and make it easier for buyers to find the items they’re looking for, we’re excited to announce new improvements to our product identifier search experience.

Starting today, buyers can search for any item on simply by entering its GTIN, UPC, EAN, ISBN or MPN directly into the search bar. Listings that contain the required identifiers will receive better search visibility, so if any of your existing listings are missing these identifiers, be sure to update them as soon as you can. To learn more about product identifiers—and the benefits of updating your listings—check out our product identifiers page in the Seller Center.

Now, when buyers use a product identifier to search for an item, their results will include all the listings matching that item.

To better streamline the search experience, we’re also changing the way eBay item number search works. Now, when you search for an item by its unique eBay item number, only active items that match will show up in the results.

To search for sold or completed items that are no longer active, you can:

  • Search for the item number and then click on Completed Listings in the left hand pane:

  • Or look up your items in My eBay (or the Seller Hub when it becomes available later this summer)

  • Or you can navigate to any eBay item by going directly to this URL by putting your eBay item number at the end of it: your eBay item number here

Before: Search for an eBay item number takes you directly to the view item page:

After: Search for an eBay item number takes you to the search results page and shows you the matching item only if the listing is still Active:

Why have all of the sorting and narrowing features been removed from the search on the mobile website? It is now so much harder to find what I am looking for. Please do not recommend your mobile app. I don't want to have to download an app just to shop one website from my phone. Is the search function on ebay's mobile website going to be fixed so I can sort by price, relevance, etc. again? Or are those functions just gone for good now?
