Yesterday the Postal Service decreased shipping rates on several products and services. First-Class packages weighing between 1-13 ounces will see a 4.3% average reduction in price, as will services like Media Mail, Insurance, and Signature Confirmation. These new rates are available when you purchase postage at a USPS retail location.
There’s also good news for customers who use eBay labels: rate decreases will also be applied to Media Mail, Insurance, and Signature Confirmation. Additionally, eBay label users will also enjoy a 3.5% reduction on First-Class items weighing between 1-3 ounces.
HOW THIS IMPACTS EBAY SELLERS
While lower USPS shipping rates are certainly great news, there are some things you should keep in mind. For instance you might consider taking a look at your listings, and making adjustments to what you’re currently charging for shipping.
Here are a few more things to keep in mind:
Your competitors may be using the new rates as an opportunity to reduce the amount they charge for shipping; consider lowering your rates, to stay competitive
If you choose to update your rates, learn how to edit your listings in bulk with the bulk editor feature
If you offer Calculated/Actual Cost rates, these have been automatically updated (effective yesterday)
