Warning of using fedex shipping label and invoice fees!

I recently sold a saxophone on ebay and used the fedex shipping label on ebay to ship the item.  As I just started selling, my funds weren't available instantly so I clicked the option to be charged when my funds were available for the shipping label.  When my funds became available, I never got charged on paypal for the shipping label, but just today I checked my invoice fees and it had jumped from around $90 to $134.  I thought there must of been something wrong so I checked my invoice fees and saw that I was being charged $44 for my fedex shipping label.  In the details of the fee, it said my label was 51lbs and had a bunch of other charges, but my label was only 18lbs and the shipping label cost only around $24, probably less.  I called ebay and they told me it was a mistake on their part and credited me back money so the charge of the shipping label was back to $24.  But as I said the label was probably less so I should of gotten back more money. Ebay would have charged me the extra money if I never saw the mistake, so I wanted to warn my fellow sellers out there.  They ebay specialist told me that fedex shipping labels sometimes have problems because they are still working on it.  So when you use Fedex, make sure you check how much you get charged.

i dont know what to say other than they just got me as well package weight was 26 lb. cost was to be $40 got the bill they (ebay) said it weighted 86lb and charged me $56.  when looking at the charge on my ebay bill is where it shows the 86# go to fedex web site it shows the correct 26# this leads me to believe it is not fedex that it is ebay them self charging the extra money. i will no longer ship with fedex and its sadd. i ship i pile of items. $16 on one transaction is crazy when i know i used a cetified shipping scale to get the correct weight and measured the package personally.

Warning of using fedex shipping label and invoice fees!

Hi,

I too have stopped using FedEX for this same reason. Upon looking at my (Fees) page I am dumbfounded at how many times I have been charged extra after the shippment.

I did write Fed Ex to let them know. Hopefully they will put a stop to this asap.

I will set up an account with UPS tomorrow.

I think what  said is correct - it's an ebay problem, not FedEx.

If you're going to get an account with UPS, get one with FedEx too, and it won't happen. I have a FedEx account and what you pay, you pay. They don't tack on extra weight later.  Since I've never seen that issue on my FedEx account, I have to believe it's an ebay issue.

The only issue is having to put the tracking number into the ebay system manually.

I just got ripped off too. I can't believe I was charged an extra $20 for shipping, even though the calculator estimated much less (and that is what I included as the shipping fee).

Unbelievable; I am going to use another source of shipping from now on. Lesson learned!

FedEx price quote on EBay is always wrong, wait until your recieve your monthly invoice and what they charge after the fact of your item gone and shipped and you can do nothing about it, DO NOT USE FEDEX -  use USPS, UPS, anyone but EBAYs supposed partner FedEx for shipping. All of EBAY is getting bad, I sell more know on Craigslist and other sites!!!!!!

I have used FedEx for years. I get charged extras if I use my FedEx account. It has someting to do with FedEx Ground, Espress and Home Delivery being different entities. It's confusing, but it depends on where you drop it off and if they have to send it to the other hubs first etc. I stopped using my FedEx account for that reason. I pay 15% more, but actually save money in the long run. I only ship lkarge items via FedEx now days and pay at the counter. I have not tried to use the FedEx calculator on eBay. I either estimate it or use USPS for 95% of my shipping now days. The USPS calculator is always pretty much right on. It's hard to sell large items on eBay now days, with eBay charging for shipping now, it makes it too much work for too little money. It seems I sell far more on FREE sites now days! I can offer far better prices and better shipping prices...becase there are NO fees...

You have to type all the address info too,if you do a shipment at the FedEx website. When using FedEx,through Ebay, all that info is already included.Saves time.I am going to start keeping better track of what they charge,vs estimated charge,to see if I'm being ripped off, shipping FedEx,through Ebay.

I just shipped a box to a ebay customer at the Fedex store and my cost was $5.00 higher then the estimated cost on ebay and my weight was almost right on... I dont get it.  Makes a big differance in profit when you only sold an idem for $31 and have to pay $22 for shipping intead of the $17 your buyer payed !

"Almost right on" doesn't cut it when weighing a widget to determine a price ~ an ounce one way or the other will affect the cost if it is over/under a pound mark.

If you choose to use FedEx because you have a heavier package, then be proactive and call FedEx with the weight and measurements and ask them to quote you a price ~ get it from the horse's mouth!

The problem and reason why you are getting charged a higher amount is because somewhere between Ebay and Fedex it will not calulate the "residental delivery" surcharge of 3.50 which will also change the fuel surcharge amount. I have figured this out and asked Ebay and they say that "you just need to figure 3.50 for the residental charge" So if you are shipping to BFE, you will be charged 3.50 residental and a 3.80 DAS (Delivery are Surcharge) and that is not including the shipping fees..  The DAS will calculate but even when the residental box is checked, the 3.50 doesnt appear in the quote. You can guarentee it will be on the final bill from Fedex. FYI if you dont know how to see the difference go to your shipping mgr and go back a few months/weeks. Click on the $$ amount and it wil show you what you were quoted and what you paid.. The (RES 3.50 ) will be there.

Please fix this glitch Ebay.

Warning of using fedex shipping label and invoice fees!

Just got my invoice and was hit with additional FedEx fees:

Base rate: $14.87 Resi: $3.1 Fuel Surchg: $0.66 Vol disc: $-3.42

Base rate: $16.61 Resi: $3.1 Fuel Surchg: $0.72 Vol disc: $-3.82

I now understand the residential fee, but **bleep** is up with the change in Base rate!?!?  Package size and weight were all accurate.

Same thing happened to me with Fed Ex overcharges. I Input the correct weight using a postal scale and always verify my measurements are correct. I got a quote from Ebay using Fed Ex Smartpost. I just got my invoice and noticed the fee was just about double. They also doubled the weight of the item and changed the measurements. I called Ebay who told me to contact Fed Ex. Spoke to Fed Ex who told me to contact Ebay. Called Ebay again and was told to go back to Fed Ex. Spoke to a Fed Ex supervisor who explained that Ebay needs to request the adjustment since they are the account holders. Spoke to Ebay supervisor and explained what I was told from Fed Ex. She adjusted my account accordingly.

I just wasted over an hour of my life. I am so angry right now! This is crazy......

Thanks guy for all your posts. I was going to use Fedex as at first Priority from USPS had a big charge of $32 for a package and looking at Fedex it said $6.50. I had a feeling it was too good to be true. After looking, I found Parcel Select from USPS for $8.60 and that is the final price. I searched fees for Fedex on eBay and here I am. Wonder why Fedex is even an option if they do hidden/after fees. Cheers to you all for saving me money and hassles!
