Can anyone help me with what this pressed pattern brass plate is for? Looks like a light switch plate, but does not have the standard two screw holes other plates have. Where the switch would go is fairly deep, so I wondered if it may be a switch plate to protect a switch someone does not want to easy turn on or off.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Doiing a quick search, I found a company that made brass back plates, escutcheons, & elaborate door knobs, and vintage hardware in general.
According to one article, they used the brass rubbing method to copy old, and ancient European scenes from antique brass pieces.
They used the name 'Sentinel' on many of their products.
Research Notting Hill.

Thank you so much for the research you did and for responding to my questions. I took a look at both the link you sent and at Notting Hills website and I did not see anything like the plate I have. Except . . . there was a very cool antique looking plate with the name Sentinel on it, shown as one of the hits within the link. My memory is so poor, but I believe it was for a train car or business door of some kind.
Do you have any idea what this plate might be used for?
Thank you again!

Sorry for the delay. . . out of town for Thanksgiving.
Here is a photo of the back for everyone to see, but after hearing JQs answer am sure this is from an old radio.
Thank you both so much!
